  1. Help! I have purchased the materials to make these for Christmas gifts, and made a few to try them out. They don’t scent the small rooms I put them in at all! It has been 3 days, and I have flipped the reeds every day. Suggestions??????

    • Hi Linda,

Thanks for reaching out with questions about how to make a reed diffuser.

In terms of the scent, I’d need to do a little investigation of what might be going wrong.
Do they smell strong when you are standing right by the diffuser? If not, then I’d increase the amount of essential oils.
Can you smell the oils when the reeds are not in the bottle? If you can smell the oils when the reeds are not blocking the beck of the bottle, but the scent is harder to smell when the reeds are inserted into the bottle, then likely the reeds are not carrying the oil blend up the reeds and out into the room. That can either be because the reeds themselves are not working or the oil mixture is not thing and thin enough to travel up the reeds. To fix this, I would add another tablespoon or so of vodka to lighten the oil blend.
In terms of your question about separation, yes, oil and vodka will separate a bit. It shouldn’t be a complete separation though, meaning you want to see droplets of the oil in the vodka rather than completely separate layers of alcohol and oil.
Hope those tips help. It’s so thoughtful of you to make these are gifts for your friends and family!
      Sarah
