Never again will I have to wonder what’s in the mystery roller bottle in my bathroom drawer.  Never again will I have to try to track down the recipes of my favorite essential oil blends when I want to remake the roller bottle but I’ve forgotten exactly which oils are in that blend and how many drops of each I’m supposed to put in.  This makes it really easy (and FUN) to make roller bottles.

  1. pick your roller bottlesclick here to see the roller bottles I use most often.  they’re inexpensive (usually under $10 including shipping for 24 bottles) and they don’t leak!  But if you’d prefer other styles or colors of roller bottles, check out this post which lists lots more of my favorite roller bottles in all shapes, sizes, colors, and finishes.
  2. pick the blends you want to make– make all 20 blends or just one.  Choose from Immune Booster, Tummy Tamer, Muscle Soother, Owie Stick, Anti-Itch Stick, Seasonal Support, Tension Tamer, Deep Breath, Anti-Stress, Chill Out, Grounding Blend, Good Night Sleep Tight, Energized, Lets Focus, Joyful, Nourish, Clear Skin, Calm Skin, Motivation, and Gratitude.
  3. print the labels  click here for printable roller bottle recipe labels
  4. cut the labels out  this vinyl paper works great for essential oil diy projects like this. They are even waterproof (and oil proof). And you can print them in an ink jet printer  (note: another option is to print the labels on plain printer paper, cut the labels out, lay them face down on a piece of clear packing tape, trim around the label- making sure to leave at least 1/8 of an inch of tape around the label, and then stick the label onto the bottle.  It’s easier than it sounds, and it’s practically free.)
  5. put the labels on the roller bottles
  6. store your bottles in a great organizer like this. it’s less than $5 including shipping!
  7. take your roller bottles with you in a great essential oil bag like this- I have a couple of these bags.  They are fantastic!  Not only are they beautiful, they’re extremely well made, and fit standard 5ml and 15ml essential oil bottles as well as roller bottles.

How to fill the roller bottles

  • start with a 10 ml glass roller bottle
  • add the drops of essential oil (see my favorite roller bottle blend recipes below)
  • fill rest of 10 ml roller bottles with a carrier oil.  It’s helpful to use a little funnel like these when filling the roller bottles with carrier oils.  Be sure to leave a little space at the top so that’s there’s room to put the roller ball back on.  Here are some of my favorite carrier oils for these roller bottle blends:
    • fractionated coconut oilthis is my favorite one  it’s odorless, colorless, organic, and gmo-free.
    • jojoba oilthis is my favorite one  it’s organic, GMO-free, cold-processed and unrefined.  Jojoba oil  is actually not an oil, but a liquid wax.    It closely resembles the sebum in human skin.  It’s extremely rich in Vitamin E, promotes a healthy glowing complexion.  It’s great for all skin types (normal, dry, oily, sensitive, and mature).  This works well in all roller bottle blends, but I especially think it’s great in the nourish and calm skin blends.
    • rosehip seed oilthis is my favorite one  it’s organic, unrefined, and 100% pure. Rosehip seed oil is one of the best oils for dry and mature skin.  It’s very moisturizing, high in Vitamin C, mild astringent, extremely high in essential fatty acids, and fast absorbing.  This works well in all roller bottle blends, but I especially think it’s great in the nourish and calm skin blends.
    • sweet almond oilthis is my favorite one  It’s organic, food-grade oil.  Sweet almond oil is great for all skin types, including sensitive skin and acne-prone skin.  It’s one of the gentlest oils, extremely nourishing, rich in Vitamin D, and it’s an excellent emollient known for its ability to soften and recondition the skin.
  • snap on the roller ball
  • shake the bottle to mix the carrier oil and essential oils

Where to Apply the oils

  • Immune Booster– We roll this on the bottom of our feet, let to soak in, and then cover with socks.
  • Tummy Tamer– We roll this on our stomachs and gently rub it in.
  • Muscle Soother– We roll this directly on the sore muscles and rub in.
  • Owie Stick–  To try to keep the roller ball clean, we will either roll the owie stick blend onto our fingers and then apply it to the skin with the owie, or if we roll the owie stick directly onto the skin, we then clean the roller ball after use.
  • Anti-itch Stick– To try to keep the roller ball clean, we will either roll the anti-itch stick blend onto our fingers and then apply it to the itchy skin, or if we roll the anti-itch stick directly onto the skin, we then clean the roller ball after use.
  • Seasonal Stick– We typically roll this onto the pulse points behind our ears and in our wrists, then we rub wrists together and inhale.
  • Tension Tamer– We roll this onto the back of the head where the head joins the neck and also roll it onto the temples, being careful to not roll on too much and to keep the oil away from the eyes.  (note: if oil does get in the eyes, do not use water to try to get the oil out; water with drive the oil further in.  Instead dab the eye with an oil or splash the eyes with whole milk to dilute the oil.)
  • Deep Breath– We typically roll this onto the upper chest and then wrist pulse points (rub wrists together and inhale).  We also sometimes roll this blend under the big toe, a spot that support clears breathing.
  • Anti Stress–  We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.
  • Chill Out– We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.
  • Grounding Blend– We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.
  • Goof Night Sleep Tight– We either apply to the bottoms of feet, let soak in, and cover with socks, or we apply to wrists and chest (this is what I do when I travel without a diffuser as I love the combined scents of lavender and cedarwood)
  • Energized– We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.
  • Let’s Focus– We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.
  • Joyful– We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.
  • Nourish– We roll a small strip onto forehead and both cheeks and then gently rub in using upward strokes.
  • Clear Skin– We roll a small strip onto forehead and both cheeks and then gently rub in using upward strokes.
  • Calm Skin– We roll a small strip onto forehead and both cheeks and then gently rub in using upward strokes.
  • Motivation– We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.
  • Gratitude– We apply to pulse points behind ears and on wrists.  After applying to wrists, we rub wrists together and deeply inhale aroma, making an effort to breath deeply and intentionally for several seconds.

  1. The best essential oil site I have found. So much good info and exact direction and instruction on how to benefit from the different oils. I will definitely be making some roll on blends for the upcoming flu and cold season.
    Thank you for sharing!

    • Wow, thanks Cheryl. That’s a very kind note!
I’m so glad to hear that you’re finding my site helpful.
I have so much fun creating recipes and sharing information about using essential oils, but the best part is when others find it useful.

  2. Hi Sarah, I’ve been signed up on your site for a while, but when I click on the link, I just sign up again & it says, “Thank you for signing up” and I don’t actually get the labels! Am I doing something wrong?

    • Hi Peggy,
Sorry about the confusion. I’m going to send you an email with the rollerball recipes and labels.
You do have to enter your email each time you want a printable. It sounds like you did that. After you put in your email address, a box should pop up thanking you and in that box there should be a link for the printable. When you click on that link, a new tab should open with the pdf of the free printable labels and recipes. Sounds like that didn’t happen. Thanks for letting me know. I will check to make sure that we get that working.
      Sarah

        • Hi,
The recipes for the roller bottle blends are right on the labels. There isn’t a separate sheet for the labels.
