- Start with a 16 oz glass bottle like this amber one or like this clear one
- tip: recycle glass apple cider vinegar bottle and add a spray top like this  or like this or like this
- tip: want to make a different scent for every room? Use a smaller glass bottle and make several room sprays. It’s easy. Use a 4 oz glass spray bottle like this or like this just cut the recipes below to one-quarter of the original amounts (that is, use 2 oz distilled water, 1/2 oz witch hazel, and about 10-12 drops of essential oil)
- add 8 oz distilled water to the bottle
- tip: Make sure to get distilled water and not regular filtered or spring bottled water. Using distilled water will help your room spray to last for several months.
- tip: You can find distilled water at your grocery store.   It’s usually less than $1 for an entire gallon (which is enough to make 16 bottles of room spray).
- tip: using a cute little funnel like this makes it really easy to add your ingredients to the bottle.
- add 2 oz of organic witch hazel (like this)
- tip:  witch hazel helps to keep the essential oils emulsified in the water. If you don’t have witch hazel, you can use 2 tsp of Epsom salt instead.  Simply add the essential oils to the Epsom salt. stir to distribute oil throughout salt, and then add oil/salt mixture to distilled water.
- tip: And it you don’t have either witch hazel or Epsom salt, no worries, you can leave them out. You’ll just want to shake the room spray well each time before you use to to distribute the essential oils throughout the water.
- add 40-50 drops of essential oils (see below for recommended blends that total 40-50 drops)
- use this free printable file to print out your labels on waterproof vinyl paper like these. Your bottles will be super cute, you’ll know exactly what’s in each one, and if you use waterproof vinyl paper like these, your labels will stay as great looking even if you get water or essential oils on them.

why do you use a 16 ounce bottle with just 10 ounces of liquid? if it were me, i would use 10 ounces of distilled water and 4 ounces of high proof alcohol (not witch hazel), which acts as both a preservative and a diluent. witch hazel is not a preservative. i would put the alcohol in first, then the essentil oils, and then top off with the distilled water…
sure, that will work too.
In the 25 Best Christmas Rooms Sprays recipes a few of the recipes call for Invigorating Blend or Calming Blend or Grounding Blend. Are these a specific brand or is there a recipe that I can use to make the master blends?
Thank you!
Hi Angela,
