It’s so easy to make your own foaming soap with essential oils!  All you need are a few ingredients, and in about 1 minute, you can whip up an {all-natural} moisturizing foaming hand soap.
I LOVE that I can use my essential oils to make so many different spring and summer scents!  Here are some essential oils that I think work really well in a spring/summer scented hand soap:
floral:Â lavender, geranium, ylang ylang, rose (if you’re lucky enough to have some)
citrus:Â lemon, lime, tangerine, Â wild orange (also known as sweet orange), bergamot, grapefruit
herbs:Â rosemary, thyme, oregano, clary sage, basil
mint:Â spearmint, peppermint
clean scents:Â lemongrass, eucalyptus, cleansing blends (aka Purify and Purification)
So what’s in this foaming moisturizing hand soap?  What’s my recipe?
to a 16 ounce soap dispenser, add…
- 1/4 cup liquid unscented Castile soap (here’s the kind I use)
- 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil  (here’s the kind I use)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin (here’s the kind I use)
- 20-25 drops essential oil (see below for 21 suggested essential oil blends in spring and summer scents)
- fill with distilled water, leaving a little room for the pump
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1)Â choose a 16 ounce soap dispenser
A couple things to look for in your soap dispenser:
- material that it’s made out of–Â choose glass, PETE, or HDPE plastic soap dispenser–as those materials are all considered safe to use with essential oils
- ideally, you want a soap dispenser that’s the self foaming kind. This recipe will work in a regular soap dispenser, but if you have a foaming one, the soap will last a lot longer as you only use a small fraction of the amount of soap with a foaming dispenser as you do with traditional soap dispenser.
2)Â To your soap dispenser add 1/4 cup of liquid unscented Castile soap
tip:Â measure if you wish, but this recipe doesn’t have to be super precise, so honestly, I usually just eyeball it.
3)Â add 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
tip: if you don’t have sweet almond oil, you can substitute another oil (such as, olive oil, fractionated coconut oil, or apricot kernel oil) or you can omit the oil altogether. I love adding the sweet almond oil because it makes the hand soap extra moisturizing, and my skin tends to be dry and needs all the extra moisturizing it can get!
tip:Â again, eyeballing amount is fine
4)Â add 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
tip: if you don’t have glycerin, you can omit the oil altogether. Just like adding the oil, I love adding the glycerin, because it makes the hand soap extra moisturizing.
tip:Â again, eyeballing amount is fine
5)Â add 20-25Â drops essential oil
see below for 21 suggested essential oil blends in spring and summer scents
6)Â stir briskly to combine the soap, oil, glycerin, and essential oils
it should look like this after the soap, oil, glycerin, and essential oil are well mixed
7)Â add distilled water to mostly fill the container (about 1.5 cups)
tip: be sure to not over fill the container, leave room at the top for the soap pump. If you fill to the top with water, then when the soap pump is added, the soap will spill over the sides.
8) stir to combine, then add the soap pump, and you’re done. You’ve just made your own moisturizing foaming hand soap in your own custom {non-toxic} scent!
