Calendula gel is made from a species of marigold known as calendula officinalis. It’s been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years to soothe and heal skin.
Calendula has antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. All of which helps soothes skin, fight infection, and reduce redness and irritation from acne.
Jojoba oil is actually not an oil. It’s a waxy substance that mimics the body’s own natural oils. Like the sebum on our skin, jojoba oil balances the moisture and oil levels of our skin so that skin isn’t too oily or too dry.
Here’s some more good news for acne-prone skin:Â jojoba oil is non-comedogenic so it won’t clog pores, and it absorbs quickly (usually within a few seconds).
But best of all, according to research in 2018, jojoba oil may help improve the therapeutic properties of other ingredients when blended together with jojoba. That means, the soothing, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties of the calendula gel and essential oils used in this recipe may be increased because they are combined with jojoba oil.
