Homemade Warm Vanilla Room Spray {with essential oil}

Here’s a super easy way to create a warm, welcoming scent in any area of your home.  It’s homemade warm vanilla room spray!

It’s a blend of vanilla, orange, cinnamon, and clove that evokes that cozy, “wrapped up in a blanket”, “hanging out with family and friends” feeling of fall and the winter holidays.

I’m telling you it’s not only better for you than those toxic, chemical-laden, store-bought room sprays and candles, it also smells a lot better.  There’s nothing fake or artificial smelling about this homemade room spray.

It reminds me of fresh baked apple pie, warm snickerdoodle cookies, fresh pumpkin pie, and hot apple cider.

It could be called a housewarming blend.  Spray it anywhere that needs to be freshened or deodorized.  This stuff will de-stink it fast and lave only a fresh, homey scent to welcome your guests.

I use it in my foyer, bathrooms, kitchens, family rooms, laundry room, mud room, and any other areas of home where I want a warm, welcoming scent.

And because of the essential oils, this is much more than just an air freshener.  It also has great therapeutic benefits.

  • It’s calming.  It helps reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
  • It’s emotionally uplifting, giving a sense of joy and happiness.
  • It enhance confidence and feelings of self-love and acceptance, while lessening feelings of anger, jealousy, and insecurity.
  • And it supports a strong immune system to help fight off colds, flu, and other viruses.

What’s in homemade warm vanilla room spray

  • vanilla extract

Who doesn’t love the smell of vanilla?

For many of us, vanilla evokes found childhood memories of fresh baked cookies lovingly made by our mom or grandma.

Research has found that the scent of vanilla has a calming effect on the brain reducing feelings of anger, stress, anxiety, and sadness.

And functionally, the vanilla extract in this recipe also acts as a solvent to help the essential oils mix with the water.

  • sweet orange essential oil (also known as wild orange)

Orange essential oil has a wonderful fresh and slightly sweet scent that pairs well with vanilla.

But orange essential oil doesn’t just smell great, it has lots of terrific therapeutic benefits, too.

It helps boost your immune system to fight off colds, flu, and other viruses.  It’s emotionally uplifting.  And it’s an adaptogen that can be both calming and energizing, depending on what your body needs.

  • cinnamon essential oil

Just like the kitchen spice, cinnamon essential oil has a warm, spicy, comforting scent.

And just like orange essential oil, the cinnamon in this warm vanilla room spray has several therapeutic benefits.

Emotionally, cinnamon helps lessen feelings of jealousy and insecurity.

Physically, cinnamon supports your immune system.  And as a stimulant, cinnamon is a great natural energy boost.

  • clove essential oil

Clove has a warm, spicy, and slight woody scent.

Clove is used in a lot of cold weather cooking and baking.  Think of the smell of hot apple cider or ginger cookies.  That’s the warm, cozy scent of clove.

Clove’s emotional benefits are that it helps enhance confidence and feelings of self-love and acceptance.

  • Epsom salt

Epsom salts give a boost to the vanilla extract in helping the essential oils mix with the water.

  • distilled or filtered water

Dilutes the room spray.

  • cut it out
  • I use packing tape to apply the label to bottle.  It’s cheap, sticks well, and keeps the label from getting wet and dirty.
  • tip:  before applying label, wipe bottle with rubbing alcohol.  This will clean the bottle, get rid of any oil that may have gotten on the bottle, and help the label to stick really well.
