How to make lip scrub

step 1:  add 2 tablespoons super fine sugar to a small bowl

tip: While you can substitute regular table sugar for the super fine sugar, using super fine sugar is preferred because its smaller size granules exfoliate and smooth lips better than the larger sized crystals of regular granulated sugar.

bowl of super fine sugar

step 2:  use a coffee grinder or spice grinder to grind 12-15 white chocolate chips into a fine powder

tip: Put white chocolate chips into the freezer for a few minutes before grinding them.  This will keep them cold, and prevent them from melting during the grinding.

tip:  Pulse the grinder on and off to grind the chips.  Pulsing will grind the chips faster and help them to not get too soft.

tip:  While using a grinder is best, if you don’t have a coffee or spice grinder, you can use a knife to chop the chocolate into super small pieces and powder.

step 3:  add the chocolate powder to the bowl with the sugar

step 4:  add 10-12 drops vanilla extract (about 1/8 teaspoon)

adding vanilla extract to sugar and white chocolate

step 5:  add 6 drops tangerine essential oil

tip:  If you don’t have tangerine essential oil, you can substitute with sweet orange essential oil or another citrus essential oil if you prefer.  Just be sure to use an essential oil that’s labeled as safe for internal use since it will be used on your lips.

step 6:  add 1/2 teaspoon honey

step 7:  add 2 teaspoons avocado oil

tip:  If you don’t have avocado oil, you can substitute with another light-tasting edible oil like apricot kernel oil or sweet almond oil.  Just be sure to use an oil that’s both safe to eat (since it will be on your lips) and also not overly flavorful (like olive oil) because it would overpower the other flavors in the lip scrub.

step 8:  mix until everything is well combined

step 9:  scoop into a small jar

yield:  This recipe makes about 3 tablespoons of lip scrub.

tip:  Use jars that are safe to use with diluted essential oil, either glass jars or PET plastic jars.

step 10:  add a label (click here for a free printable label)

tip:  You can print this label on full-sheet label paper, or do what I do and print the label on regular printer paper and attach it to the spray bottle with packing tape.  It’s cheap and easy to do.  Plus, I find that the labels stay on better using packing tape than with regular label paper, and the packing tape protects the label really well, which keeps the labels looking great for a long time.

tip:  To help the label stick really well, first wipe the tube clean with a little rubbing alcohol.  Allow to dry and then apply the label.
