Immune Support Foot Rub

With the changing weather and spending more time indoors, it’s that time of year when it seems like everyone is getting sick.

a cough here

a sneeze there

feeling sluggish and worn out

No thank you!  I think I’ll pass.

To keep my family feeling great and boost our immune systems, we make an extra effort to eat right, sleep well, and not get overly stressed this time of year.

Here are a few ways we use essential oils to help support our immune systems so that they can fight off any colds, coughs, and bugs that may come our way:

step 1:  Add 2 tablespoons of beeswax pellets to a heat-safe glass bowl or measuring cup (this will be used to melt the beeswax using double boiler method)

step 2:  to melt beeswax, put the heat-safe glass bowl/measuring cup into a pot of simmering water.  Melt beeswax over medium heat.  Stir occasionally.  It will take about 15 minutes to melt beeswax.  Make sure beeswax is completely melted, otherwise the beeswax might partially re-solidify, making the foot rub grainy.

step 3:  Add 1/4 cup coconut oil to the melted beeswax

step 4:  Add 1/4 cup olive oil

stir to combine and melt the coconut oil (this won’t take long)

step 5:  once completely melted, remove the beeswax and oil mixture from the heat.  Allow it to cool for a few minutes.

After the oil/wax mixture has cooled for a few minutes, add the following essential oils and stir well

30 drops lemon essential oil (Citrus limon)

25 drops frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii)

25 drops tea tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)

15 drops eucalyptus essential oil (Eucalyptus radiata)

10 drops cinnamon essential oil (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)

10 drops rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis)

note: this is a lot of drops of essential oil (115 to be exact), but because it is being diluted in 1/2 cup of oil, it is only a 5% dilution.

step 6:  pour the mixture into containers (glass, metal, plastic #1 PET & plastic #2 HDPE jars are all safe for diluted essential oil blends like this)

step 7:  clean up

Beeswax is to hard to clean with just soap & water.  So before it hardens, use paper towels to wipe out the glass bowl/measuring cup and any utensils you used to stir the mixture.  Then once you’ve wiped off as much as you can, wash as usual with soap and water.

step 8:  Allow the immune support foot rub to cool and solidify completely before putting the lid on (this might take a few hours to harden all the way through)  You can put it in the refrigerator to speed this step up.

step 9 (optional):  If you use a tin container like I did, then you can decorate the lid with a little scrapbook paper and Modge Podge.

  • cut out scrapbook paper to fit the lid
  • use a foam brush to apply a little Modge Podge to the top of the lid (this acts as the glue)
  • put paper on lid, and starting from the center, use your finger to press down and smooth out any bubbles
  • then cover the top of the paper with a little more Modge Podge to seal the paper
  • let it dry

How to use essential oil immune-support foot rub

We apply a pea-sized amount to the bottom of each foot and rub it in.  Covering with socks is optional.

We apply this to our feet at bedtime.

When others around us are sick, we apply both morning and night.

We also do this extra morning dose before and during potentially stressful events like traveling, holidays, big tests, and hectic times at work.

    • No, unless specifically stated, my recipes are for adults.
I would adjust the recipes as follows for kids, but you should research to see what is right for you.
Teens 15-18 use recipe as is.
Kids 11-14 reduce dilution to 3%.
For Kids 7-10, omit cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary and reduce overall dilution to 3%.
For kids 3-6, omit cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary, and peppermint and reduce to a 1.5% dilution overall.
I would not use on kids under 3.

  1. Could you give me some ideas of what brand of diffuser I could use. I recently purchased one that worked 1x only. What a waste of time and money…I was looking forward to a diffuser in my house. Thank you for your time and suggestions.

    • I’ve had dozens of diffusers over the years. In terms of being a long-lasting workhorse, my favorite is a simple 500ml diffuser I got from Amazon. I love it so much, I’ve bought several of these for different rooms in my house. And they’ve all last for hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of use. The ones I bought are from different “brands” but they’re all the same model, likely made by the same company in China. That happens with a lot of diffusers – one company makes them but then lots of resellers brand the diffuser as if it were theirs alone.
You can find this 500ml diffuser here –> https://oneessentialcommunity.com/essential-oil-accessories-supplies-deals-and-sales/us
This 500ml diffuser isn’t the prettiest diffuser I own, but it you’re looking for a workhorse that will last for months and years to come, this basic 500ml diffuser is the one I’d get.
