This DIY peppermint foot cream is simple & easy to make!

You don’t need to turn on the stove or even open the microwave door.

It only takes one bowl.  That means there’s hardly any dishes to wash.

You basically dump 3 ingredients into a mixer.

It only takes a couple minutes to whip up.

Super simple.  Couldn’t be much easier.  Love that!

 

Only 3 Ingredients

  1. coconut oil (the kind that’s solid at room temperature)
  2. aloe vera gel
  3. essential oil

 

Why Use Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera, and Essential Oil in Foot Cream?

coconut oil:  moisturizing and antifungal properties keep feet healthy and looking great

aloe vera gel:  soothes and moisturizes skin as it cools

lavender essential oil:  calming aroma relaxes mind and body

peppermint essential oil:  cools, tingles, and refreshes

 

How to Make DIY Peppermint Foot Cream?

1.  Add 1 cup coconut oil (the kind that’s solid at room temperature) to a bowl or a stand mixer

2.  Add ½ cup aloe vera gel

You might be surprised at the color and consistency of the aloe vera gel in the photo below.  That’s because if you’re like me, you used to buy what was labeled “aloe vera 100% gel” at the grocery store o discount store. Turns out that clear stuff (or often neon green stuff) is only partly aloe vera gel.  Instead the stuff I used to buy that I thought was aloe vera gel was actually filled with ingredients like polysorbate-20, triethanolamine, carbomer, iodopropynol butylcarbanate, benzophenone-4, fragrance and artificial colors.  See below in the section on “Where to Get Supplies for DIY Peppermint Foot Cream” for the real aloe vera gel that I buy now.

3.  Add 20 drops lavender essential oil and 20 drops peppermint essential oil

4.  Whip all the ingredients together using either a hand mixer or stand mixer.

It will only take a couple of minutes to come together and be whipped.

You’ll know the DIY peppermint foot cream is done when it is bright white, light, and fluffy like in the photo below.

Then scoop it into glass jars.

This recipe makes about 1-1/2 cups of peppermint foot cream.  That’s enough to fill two 8 oz jars a little more than three-quarters full each.

One more time– What’s the Recipe for DIY Peppermint Foot Cream with essential oil?

1. Add the following ingredients to a glass bowl or stand mixer:

1 cup coconut oil (the kind that’s solid at room temperature)

½ cup aloe vera gel

20 drops lavender essential oil

20 drops peppermint essential oil

2. Whip ingredients together for a couple of minutes.  You’ll know the peppermint foot cream is done when it is bright white, light, and fluffy.

3. Then scoop it into glass jars.

4. I store my foot cream in the refrigerator.  It helps prolong the shelf life, and cold foot cream feels great when you put it on your feet!

 

How to Use Peppermint Foot Cream?

Massage onto clean, dry feet until fully absorbed.  For extra-deep moisturizing, put on a pair of clean socks and let the cream soak in overnight.

I like to also rub the cream into my hands and then cup my hands over my nose, breathing deeply and intentionally to further increase the relaxing and calming effect from the essential oils.

Because unlike most other coconut oils, this one doesn’t get grainy after it cools. That’s important. It’s so frustrating to put in the time and effort to making your own lotions, soaps, salves, and creams and then have them end up grainy!

click here for my favorite aloe vera  —  Love this aloe vera gel!  It’s 99.75% certified organic aloe vera.  The other .25% is made up of just a few natural ingredients: seaweed extract (natural thickener), citric acid (to stabilize ph), ascorbic acid (vitamin c), and potassium sorbate (to prevent mold)

Did you know that a product labeled “aloe vera 100% gel” is often not pure aloe vera?  This misleading labeling is very common.  While it seems at first glance that it would be pure aloe vera gel, what it actually means is that it is “100% gel” with at least some aloe vera in it.  Tricky, huh?  And worse yet, those products with misleading labeling are often filled with ingredients like polysorbate-20, triethanolamine, carbomer, iodopropynol butylcarbanate, benzophenone-4, fragrance and artificial colors.

click here for my favorite glass jars for this project I love that they have a super wide opening opening and aren’t very tall.  It makes it super easy to get out body butter (and use every last bit).  I’ve found the best deal on these jars at Walmart (in the canning section) and hardware stores.

  1. Hi, I see that you put yours in the refrigerator but is this necessary – if not kept there, how long would the cream/lotion keep for?
    Thanks!

    • Since I use real aloe vera gel in mine, it needs to be kept in the refrigerator.
      If you leave out the aloe, then it would be fine stored at room temperature.

    • Because I originally didn’t have printable recipes. I know how much people like have the printables though, so as I have time, I try to go back to add printables for older recipes.
