Lavender, Oatmeal, & Milk Bath Soak for Dry Skin

I have dry skin.

In the winter that dry skin can get very dry, chapped, and itchy.

When my skin needs some tender loving care, I turn to this lavender, oatmeal, & milk bath soak.

The all-natural ingredients soothe and calm my irritated skin.

Plus it’s a great way to relax and pamper myself a little!

What’s in this dry skin bath soak?

apricot kernel oil – dilutes essential oil and moisturizes skin

colloidal oatmeal – according to the American Academy of Dermatology, “itchy, dry skin often has a high ph level, but oatmeal can help normalize your skin’s ph, which can relieve itchy, uncomfortable skin.  Oatmeal baths also soften & moisturize your skin, which helps lock in moisture and protect skin from exterior irritants.”

powdered goat milk – attracts moisture to skin, softening, and full of vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties

baking soda – helps soften skin and leaves skin feeling silky soft

How to make dry skin bath soak?

step 1:  add 1 Tbsp of apricot kernel oil to a small bowl

step 2:  add 15 drops of lavender essential oil and mix with oil

step 3:  to a new larger bowl, add the dry ingredients — first, add 3/4 cup of colloidal oatmeal

step 4:  add 1 cup of powdered goat milk

step 5:  add 1/4 cup baking soda

step 6:  mix dry ingredients well

step 7:  pour oil/essential oil mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients

step 8:  mix well, breaking up any clumps

step 9:  pour the bath soak mixture into airtight containers (such as, the 8 oz glass milk bottles that I used)

To make it easier (and less messy) to get the bath soak into the bottles, I make a funnel out of parchment.

step 12:  attach labels to bottle by wrapping twine tightly around bottle 3-4 times and knotting it in the back.  Slip label between the bottle and the twine.

Here’s the oatmeal milk bath recipe one more time

 1.  mix together wet ingredients

1 Tbsp apricot kernel oil

15 drops lavender essential oil

 2.  mix together dry ingredients

3/4 cup colloidal oatmeal

1 cup powdered goat milk

1/4 cup baking soda

 3.  add wet ingredients to the dry and mix well

 

How to use the oatmeal milk bath?

  • Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup to warm bath water
  • Stir water to help mixture dissolve
  • Relax and soak in the tub for 10-15 minutes
  • Be careful when getting out of tub, because the tub may be a little slippery
  • Pat skin dry with soft, absorbent towel (don’t rub skin)
  • Apply a natural body butter to help keep the moisture in (click here for my favorite diy body butter recipe)

8 oz glass milk bottles – I got mine at The Container Store, but you can also get them online here

colloidal oatmeal – You can grind up oatmeal very, very fine, or you can buy it here

powdered goat milk – many grocery stores carry it or you can buy online here

baking soda – grocery stores or get a big bag at Costco (it’s an amazingly good deal)

apricot kernel oil – I get mine here

twine – craft stores, in the gift wrap section at Target or Walmart, or online here
