calming essential oil diffuser blends for when you need to relax, chill out, and reduce stress

Calming Diffuser Blends for Stress

I LOVE diffusing essential oils!

Not only do they smell amazing, they also help me relax.

Do you have frayed nerves?  Need to chill out?  Want to ditch the witch?  Get out of your grouchy pants?  Find your zen?  Then this is the place for you (and me).

In this post I share a few of my favorite stress-busting essential oil diffuser blends.  There are blends for those who love floral oils like lavender, geranium, and patchouli.  There are blends for those who love citrus oils like orange, bergamot, and lime.  And there are blends for those who love woodsy oils like cedarwood and sandalwood.

Hope you find some new blends that you love!  Be sure to look below for a free printable of all the recipes.

In addition to diffusing, another great way to use essential oils for calming and stress relief is topically.  check out these other posts for great topical ways to use essential oils to relax, calm, balance, and ground yourself to reduce stress and recharge.  21 roller bottle recipes for emotional support (and free printable labels), bath salts, bath bombs, peppermint foot cream {for tired feet}, bubbling bath salts,  and shower steamers

Sarah, in blend # 2 what is the grounding and calming blend you are talking about? Thanks!?

    • Sarah Lewis October 17, 2015 at 9:13 am - Reply

Hi, Tiffanie. For the grounding blend you can use doTERRA’s Balance blend or the Valor or Grounding blends from Young Living or a similar blend. For the calming blend you could use doTERRA’s Serenity blend or Young Living’s Peace and Calming blend. Hope you enjoy! – Sarah

What is in the joyful blen?

    • Sarah Lewis February 24, 2017 at 3:32 pm - Reply

      Hi Ruth,
joyful blend is a generic term referring to mood-lifting essential oil blends like Elevation from doTERRA, Blues Buster from Plant Therapy, and Joy blend from Young Living.

Hiya – what happens when you use two oils with opposing properties like spearmint and lavender. One uplifting and one calming and sedative? Thanks

    • Sarah Lewis May 15, 2017 at 8:13 pm - Reply

It will depend on the essential oils. But lavender and spearmint is one of my favorite combinations. It’s calming and peaceful.

I love these combos, but could you please tell me how much water is in the diffuser?? I have a large one and try to adjust amount. That would be helpful thank you

    • Sarah Lewis May 15, 2017 at 8:05 pm - Reply

I use 3 drops of essential oil for 150ml and smaller diffusers.
I use 6 drops of essential oil for all diffusers larger than 150ml, regardless of how big they are.

Hi! The Stress Relief blend looks great. I was just wondering.. does it actually smell like the Bath and Body Works lotion/body wash? I’m looking for the scent without all the chemicals. Thanks!

    • Sarah Lewis June 18, 2017 at 4:43 pm - Reply

It does to me. I used to own that entire line of Bath and Body Works stress relief products. Love that scent! But then several years ago, I started clearing out all the chemicals from my home, and replaced the BBW products with homemade versions using eucalyptus and spearmint essential oils. This diffuser blend is great, and you can also make homemade all-natural whipped body butter, body wash, hand soap, pillow mist, sugar scrub, etc It’s a lot of fun, I get the same great relaxing scent, and I know exactly what is in everything I make.
